This publication sits at the intersection of life, faith, and providing others with an opportunity for meaningful personal growth. The goal of the weekly newsletter is to examine who we have been, and how we can be better.

“We” can be defined in many ways.

Who I Am

• I’m the son, grandson, great-grandson, and brother of evangelical ministers. Church was always what I did. In some ways, it’s still what I do. But now it’s not about church, it’s about life.

• I’m also a husband and father.

• I’m a writer.

Over the past twenty years, I've realized that my life as a man didn't had the positive impact I once believed it did. This was a surprising revelation given the pride I once had as an evangelical. These days, I'm taking a critical look at my past and making changes for the future.

I’ve learned there are many people like me, which means there’s a group of …us.

Who You Are

• You are a person who is reconfiguring your life in relationship to your faith. This might be after evangelicalism. Maybe even after Christianity. Maybe another faith you wish had played out differently in your life. You’re willing to wrestle with anything if it will lead you towards better personhood.

OR…

• You’re not a person of faith, but have friends who are and are interested in understanding us a bit better. You’re desperate to see there are those of us willing to accept the misgivings you have for faith-based people. Yeah…we get it. You’re right, and we’re working to do better.

Just a heads up…

I chose the name, The Unfiltered Scribe, for a reason. I don’t parse words. I’m brutally honest in how I talk about my past. It’s the only way I know to grow.

You see, I’ve come to terms with the shame I carried and I’ve let it go. I don’t believe in it. It can be unsettling when we start to notice fractures in our personhood. Releasing shame’s grip has helped move past the unsettled feeling.

The Unfiltered Scribe is a newsletter intent on building a community for like-minded people to share in life’s journey, offer support, and exchange insights as we navigate the complexities of maturation together.
