Ugh how frustrating! I made the classic rookie mistake at Boston and went out WAY too fast; my time at 13 was the fastest half-marathon I had ever run. Ruh-roh. I almost quit on the hill and was walking at the side when an angel saved me. He was a high-school coach type who walked beside me literally screaming “come on, 19010! GET those feet MOVING! This isn’t that hard!! Go on, gedoudda here!” I threw up twice more but did finish. Don’t listen to your body. (Mine at least is a lazy slob). Find your coach. Good luck!

Thanks. My first training milestone for my next marathon is tomorrow, a 5K. Training has gone well (haven’t skipped a day, and followed my app’s coaching instructions , and I’m excited to see how the 5K goes. I imagine I’ll improve my 5K time. After a vacation, I’ll start training for a Spartan race—at the request of my son participating with me—on July 12.

This is a tough situation precisely because it’s Boston. Who knows what any of us would have done. To die with honor on Hertbreak Hill?

It is quite easy to second guess. I don’t know that I can secure a bib for next year, but I’m training like I will. Starting from scratch. I’m registered for a 5k on June 3. One race at a time.

Pal. I am not second guessing anything. I’ve been there and more presently so have you. My point is tits the toughest of decisions. Heartbreak Hill is a killer both real and metaphorical.

Oh, no! I meant it’s easy for me to second guess myself. Lol. Not you. I appreciate your comment!

There are two voices in your head: The Boss (“It’s 4:30am. Get your lazy ass to the gym.”) and The Little Bitch (“Sure. Right after one or two snooze alarms and a latte.”) It all comes down to which one is louder in the moment.

I can only confess…in the last two days, both voices have won. 😂

I distinctly remember despising how I felt after the Aaron Boone home run in 2003. I was in Kansas City. I went outside and tried to shoot a basketball to calm down. But I was so angry. And like you said, my greatest discomfort was just how much I was affected by it. I have had similar moments since then (2007 Patriots chief among them), but I think I've been able to dismiss it more readily. Stupid sports.

I remember that too. What frustrated me with that Red Sox situation was that while they didn't have an "official" closer, they had developed a pretty good strategy of using Alan Embry as middle relief, and then Mike Timlin to close. But Grady Little ignored that plan and stuck with Pedro, who everyone BUT Little could tell was spent. He ignored the plan that had been working.

In the case of the Celtics this year, Mazzula stuck with a plan that was no longer working. IMHO.
